society

[This is not really a poem, but]
[It definitely wouldn't make a good deeperthinking post]
[Besides, deeperthinking already has a society post]

It seems we put ourselves in a jailhouse every day, for
Walls stand between us that many do not even see.
The system that keeps this jail intact is complex, and
By its nature many ignore it altogether.
Those who see these walls either do not care, or
Despise them, but
Anyone who tries to push them down, or
Even has the potential to push them down,
Is put in their own cell,
With limited access to the others.
Yet, many do not give up, and
They start pushing on these new cell walls, but
The more they push,
The harder others work to reinforce the walls around that cell, and
The less access the person is given to others, until
They are deafened to the noise,
The noise of a kid banging on steel-reinforced walls.
According to the nature of his rebellion,
The walls are clear but tainted differently.
The kid may despise the others,
Or study them,
Or wish he were one of them.
The others may despise this kid,
Or envy his determination secretly,
Or make fun of him to reaffirm their domination.
From this system the defining of popularity is decided also.
Outside of the cell,
You may be in the popular group, or
You may be grouped with the losers.
Often, these groups do not see them, for
They are somewhat transparent, but
There are also walls all around them,
Between them, and
Dividing them against one another.
Sometimes, only the kid inside the cell has a chance of seeing those walls, and
This tortures him, for
He is the one that can do nothing about them.
The losers have less use for walls, but
Their lack of walls brings them little satisfaction,
Especially for those who envy the popular.
After all, is not the grass always greener on the other side?
Inside the cell,
The kid is usually considered a loser, but
Every once in a while,
He has a chance of just being,
"The other guy."
When this is true,
He isn't really cool, but
He isn't a loser either.
He has his own definition of what is cool, and
He is cool to himself, and
That is all that matters to him.
Often, he is given limited access to the others, but
He usually only uses this advantage to study the system, for
Those who study the ways of an enemy stand a chance against it.
He sees that these walls cannot be pushed down, but
Perhaps there is a vulnerable point which may be exploited,
Perhaps their foundations can be weakened,
Perhaps holes can be dug under them, and
He studies further to form the plan to destroy the walls.
